Here’s Why Backlink Variation Matters More Than You Know
One of the most painful sights that I bear witness to as a successful Internet Marketer is the number of upstarts that I see on the various Internet Marketing forums in search of very large numbers of one way backlinks to any of their websites that are keyword based, plus are what we refer to as being “dofollow” links. Is this a wise method to follow? Not in the slightest, but to prove my point, lets dive in and take a look.
Lets start by taking about the role that the search engines play in this mess. Search engines generally don’t just rank any old website at the top of their search results pages, in fact, they are consistently working together to make sure that not only are they showing the most relevant pages possible at the top of their results pages, but that they are showing pages that seem to have generated a natural appearing structure of backlinks over a decent amount of time utilising effective white hat backlinks indexing methods. In the eyes of most search engines, a website that tries to manipulate the top of the search engine results page for a particular keyword will generally have a much more erratic backlink structure. Of course, it goes without saying that if someone does not rank naturally, it will be in the search engines opinion that the content on page is of a lesser quality.

Due to this, Google likes to give preference to pages that have a much more diverse and naturally grown backlink structure. I’m talking about a variety of link types from a variety of different types of websites. Blogs, forums, social media, directories, and more. If a website is in a competitive niche, with only links coming from high authority blogs, then it is obvious that this will not appear as being natural to Google, and the other search engines for that matter.
So, by now, you would get the idea that it is absolutely unwise to focus 100% of your link building efforts on keyword anchor text based links, but what is also extremely important here is to not focus only on specific links from specific websites. For example, if you only try to generate high pagerank links, or links from only government and education domains, chances are it will not work in your favor. You need to be more diverse than that.
So, if you are not going to be building only keyword based anchor text links, what should you be focusing on instead? I could make a million and one suggestions here, each would work fine, however what has worked great for me is to build a combination of keyword based anchor texts that all use different modifiers before the main keyword. Not only that, but even linking out using the URL as anchor text works extremely well.
The most important point here is to make sure that your link structure is absolutely natural looking. It is looks as though you have just build a huge number of links from one source, and executed some black hat backlinks indexing methods on those links, then you are not going to be so lucky. That said, if you follow my instructions that I have given to you today, then maybe some day I will see you ranking high in the search engines some day.
