Sea Life

What is the major in college where you get to work with sea life?

Such as, dolphins, whales, and learn about different types of fish how to care for them and stuff. Is it marine biology or something like that?

Thanks!

Oceanography, Marine Science, Marine Biology each study those things but aren’t really about caring for them.

An aquarium keeper might be required to have a degree in any of those fields. Animal trainers are not the same – they often have their degree in animal behavior or psychology.

The AZA jobs listing has some aquarium and marine life jobs posted – take a look and see what they’re requiring of employees. http://www.aza.org/joblistings/

Houston Zoo has an opening for an Aquarist that requires a bachelor’s in biology (or related field) and a year of experience in a public aquarium plus SCUBA cert.

Landry’s in Texas has a curator of aquarium job that also wants a bachelor’s in biology (or related field) but expects 5 years experience and SCUBA cert.

Disney needs a research associate in aquatics and they’d like a bachelor’s or master’s in biology or chemistry.

Read over those job postings and you may find that the employers out there are asking for degrees that are different from what a lot of people think is required to get the job.
